2010-11 Flyers offseason primer

With the memorable 2009-10 season complete with the Stanley Cup still not in Philadelphia, attention is now immediately turned to next year’s Flyers team and what, if anything, will change with regards to personnel.

During the “clean-out” day on Friday morning, Philly general manager Paul Holmgren made one thing clear — whether minor or major, change is coming.

Philadelphia Inquirer writer Sam Carchidi reported from the media day that Holmgren said it was “Highly unlikely” that this Flyers team stays intact moving into next season.  That brings up the question of who is on the outs and who might come in?

Flyers to place emphasis on finding long-term goalie

According to Daily Times writer Anthony SanFilippo, a source within the Flyers organization has made it clear that atop the team’s offseason wish list is finding a young goaltender.

“We can’t go into next year with the same situation or a similar situation in goal that we have right now,” the source told SanFilippo.  “What happened this year is really nobody’s fault. Ray (Emery) came in here and did everything we asked and was good until he got hurt. We got lucky with (Michael) Leighton, but we can’t expect to win doing things this way in goal.

“It’s already been decided that our No. 1 priority for next season is to get a goalie. We have to go out and get that player and commit to him as our guy.”
