Just days after unrestricted free agent goaltender Marty Turco officially denied a multi-year deal with the Flyers, the 35-year-old backstop has accepted a one-year, $1.3 million deal with the Chicago Blackhawks.
The signing came immediately following the announcement that the Blackhawks had officially released Stanley Cup winning restricted free agent goaltender Antti Niemi, after arbitration awarded the 26-year-old Finn $2.75 million. With money issues, Niemi was simply a cap casualty.
Chris Pronger doesn’t want you to be happy.
After losing consecutive one-goal games to the Chicago Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup Finals, Flyers defenseman Pronger was seen picking up the game puck and carrying it back into the locker room. The same game puck that rookie goaltender Antti Niemi would probably like to have.
“He was picking up the puck. I told him he could keep it,” said Chicago forward Ben Eager, who along with Pronger, received a game misconduct with no time on the clock.
