Possible labrum tear could sideline Parent

Philadelphia Flyers’ defenseman Ryan Parent worked like a madman in the offseason, in hopes that he would be cemented as a top-six d-man for the Flyers.  But those plans may have hit a snag, as a nagging shoulder injury may need corrective surgery, icing Parent’s hopes for now.

18-year old could start season with Flyers

It is very rare that an 18-year old defenseman starts in the NHL right after being drafted.  Typically, it takes the player until they are 20-21 years old before they are physically and mentally able to do the right things on a consistent basis.  But after a stellar training camp and eye-opening preseason, the Flyers’ 2008 first-round draft pick, Luca Sbisa, may just be the exception.

Flyers decline options to sign Dowd, Berard.

According to 610 WIP, the Philadelphia Flyers will not sign veterans Jim Dowd and Bryan Berard.  The announcement came during the Flyers – New Jersey Devils preseason telecast, and implied that both players did not show enough during training camp to warrant a signing for the upcoming season.

Insidehockey: Giroux dispatched to AHL

On Thursday, the Philadelphia Flyers announced that six players will be assigned to the Phantoms of the AHL. Jon Kalinski, Boyd Kane, Jared Ross, Nate Guenin and Sean Curry were among those selected. But the biggest name from the group is rookie forward Claude Giroux.

Insidehockey: The Spectrum’s final farewell

On Saturday, the Philadelphia Flyers officially said goodbye to the Wachovia Spectrum by defeating the Carolina Hurricanes, 4-2, in preseason action. But neither the win nor the game was important. What mattered was that the Flyers and fans from around the city got to pay their final respects to not just a dingy relic, but an old friend.

At the John Labatt Center in London Ontario, the Philadelphia Flyers rebounded from a shaky outing against the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday, by systematically destroying the New York Islanders, 4-0, Thursday night in preseason action.
