Looking to bust out of a four-game slump with pure force, the Flyers will activate both Jody Shelley and Dan Carcillo for tonight’s contest against the visiting Edmonton Oilers at the Wells Fargo Center.
Forwards Nik Zherdev and Andreas Nodl will be the healthy scratches.
After giving the team a day to reset on Monday and taking blame for the team’s sluggish play of late, coach Peter Laviolette made the correct move in starting the gritty duo of Carcillo and Shelley. Missing three games due to the flu, Carcillo is sure to serve as energy in a bottle, which is something the Flyers have lacked the past two weeks and will need against a high-tempo Oilers team.
Also helping the slump-busting cause is the return of the team’s leading goal-scorer Jeff Carter, who missed Sunday’s lopsided defeat against the New York Rangers due to illness. Although Carter may not be one-hundred percent, he provides match-up issues for the opposition which could open the ice for players like Danny Briere, who is riding a dreary post All-Star Game drought.
