Flyers acquire D-Meszaros from Tampa Bay

According to TSN, the Flyers have acquired Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Andrej Meszaros for a second round pick in the 2012 NHL entry draft.

Meszaros, 24, is a decent sized (6’2, 220 lbs.) puck-moving blue liner that carries a salary cap hit of $ 4 million for the next four seasons.  The physical Czech-native, who led Tampa defensemen with 112 registered hits was lost in the shuffle in his two seasons with the Lightning, earning just 33 points and a minus-18 rating in 133 games.

However, the Flyers hope they can turn Meszaros back into the player he was in three seasons with Ottawa, when he scored 110 total points and was a plus-24, without missing one game.

Meszaros averaged just over 20 minutes a game last season with Tampa

    thats a big IF.

    • Absolutely. But teams like the Flyers, with veteran influences and a very steady front office, believe they can set young players straight. They did it with Matt Carle. Remember, it’s easy to get lost in an organization like Tampa. Coaches change, owners change and teammates constantly change.
