Although the Flyers have just $2.2 million under the salary cap, General Manager Paul Holmgren has expressed his interested for one more offensive player, during the free agent frenzy. Despite picking up Brian Boucher and Ian Laperriere, Holmgren made it clear the team needed to fill in the production hole left by departing free agent Mike Knuble and a traded Joffrey Lupul.
“We are still looking to add some offense some how,” Holmgren said during a conference call on Wednesday. “Obviously when you lose Mike (Knuble) through free agency and Joffrey (Lupul) being traded, that is a lot of goals that we have given up.”
Being cap strapped does not put the Flyers in prime position to snag someone impressive like a Ruslan Fedotenko or Chad LaRose. But it could put them in the running for a player such as Todd Bertuzzi or Robert Lang.
“We will continue to look over the next few days,” said Holmgren. “There are still some players out there that we value. We will see how it goes.”
