The Flyers make one final scrap heap pickup before the deadline, trading a 2008-09 sixth round pick to the San Jose Sharks for veteran defenseman and former 1995 first round pick, Kyle McLaren. 31-year old McClaren is 6’4, 235 lbs and has yet to play a game this season with the Sharks.
Due to his salary of $2.5 million, McLaren will not see time with the Flyers unless major injury strikes. However, he could be used as an insurance policy for the playoffs. Many teams carry two extra defenseman for emergencies and the Flyers do not want to count on Nate Guenin or Lasse Kukkonen to save the team if disaster should strike.
