Flyers’ top defenseman Kimmo Timonen is finally healthy and set to return tonight against the Boston Bruins, setting off a chain of salary cap events that also puts rookie Claude Giroux back into the lineup. With his return, the Flyers sent Jared Ross and Nate Guenin back to the AHL.
Timonen missed four games with the flu and his absense, the Flyers were forced to bring up an extra defenseman, pushing the team over the salary cap with the return of Danny Briere from LTIR. Giroux and Lasse Kukkonen were sent down the AHL and cheaper fill-ins Ross and Guenin stepped in so that Briere could fit into the lineup.
With Timonen back, not only are the Flyers fully healthy for the first time in memory, but it should give a much-needed boost to the Flyers’ power play that has strugged terribly in his absense. The Timonen-less man advantage only converted two of 21 opportunities. The Flyers are also looking to end a two-game losing streak.
