According to Tim Pannacio of CSNphillly.com, the Flyers have placed forward Glen Metropolit on waivers to make cap room for the return of Danny Briere on Friday. Metropolit relieves the Flyers of just $1 million of the estimated $2 million needed to squeeze Briere under the cap. The move comes as somewhat of a surprise since Darroll Powe, who went from fringe AHLer to an everyday player for the Flyers, did not get put on the chopping block like most expected. Powe will take over fourth-line centering duties for Metropolit, unless he gets sent down as well.
Pannacio believes Powe and Lasse Kukkonen could be next on the cost-cutting list, but it could be Ossi Vaananen, who carries his own $1 million contract, to be the next on waivers.
Metropolit tallied just four goals and 10 assists in 55 games as a Flyer.
