Flyers’ Rookie camp concludes with loss to Caps

The Flyers’ rookies were completely outmatched by the steady Washington group at the Kettler Iceplex in Arlington, Virginia, Thursday afternoon in a friendly rookie scrimmage.  Washington’s Travis Morin netted two goals and starting goalie Simeon Varlamov was outstanding as the Flyers were embarrassed by Washington 7-0.  The Flyers were unable to apply any sustained pressure on offense and impotent at stopping a consistent Capitals’ attack.

The Capitals scored five power play goals as the sloppy Flyers made mistake and mistake.  In goal for the Flyers, Jacob Deserres had a solid outing but backup Jeremy Duschesne looked as average as ever.  Defense for the flyers, Chris Zarb had a game to forget, by turning the puck over all game long in his own zone.  Luca Sbisa manned the power play that was unsuccessful, but the newly drafted Swiss player looked smooth and confident.  At forward, Ned Lukacevic and Jon Matsumoto had solid games, but the finish was just not there. Joosh Beaulieu, Zac Rinaldo and Jon Kalinski all dropped the gloves and fared well.
