The Philadelphia Flyers announced Thursday, that the team has signed goaltender J.S. Aubin to a one-year contract, to replace injured backup goaltender Antero Niittymaki.
Aubin, 31, brings a wealth of veteran experience to the backup position and could very well become the Phantoms’ starting backstop when Niitty returns. The move to acquire Aubin adds insurance in case Niitty takes longer than expected to recover.
“Jean-Sebastien is a veteran goalie with quality NHL experience,” said GM Paul Holmgren in a statement. “We feel his experience, along with his ability as a goaltender, makes him an ideal fit for our organization.”
“I’m happy to come to a great organization like the Flyers,” said Aubin. “I know a lot of the guys on the team. They have a lot of faith in me and it is a really good fit for me to come here.”
